Post by Scrat »

I think this poll is good for Mappers to orientate.

Which kind of maps do you prefer? Landmaps or Seamaps? Why?

I prefer landmaps because i don't want to waste unit slots on ships. But halfwatermaps where you can win without ships are good i think.

I prefer landmaps, too. I don't like it to go with my army from island to island.

It depends. I mostly play on landmaps, but playing on a seamap is fun too, from time to time.

I love seamaps, there you don`t have to build walls, because you are isolated from an area where you easily could get attaacked.

If I feel like playing as the dragon clan, then i love the sea maps. You just can't beat there navy. :D Especially if your fighting the dust riders, because there transport ships will stop to attack you so you can kill the transports and the people inside them with your ships.

But the rocket boats don`t do as much damage as the battleship or the catamaran, do they?

The rocket boat does more damage then the catamaran, but not the steam battle ship. Of course, the dragon clan can still use flame boats, muraenosaurus subs, and the other members of their navy to attack the battleship at close range.

Also, the dragon clan has a really good strategy that can be set up. First, set up a strip of mines, then make a corsair and make floating towers close behind the mines, and put fire boats in front of the mines. Post rocket boats behind the corsairs, as well as the muraenosaurus subs. When the enemy attacks the fire boats, pull the fire boats behind the mines. The enemy will follow them straight into the mines. Those that survive will be killed by everything else. :D

But the strategy of the Norsemen isn`t bad, too:

They build their strongest wall (with Stone hit (what`s the english word for that :? )) directly into the shallow water around their island and then they put ballistas in them. Around the island there are floating around steamships, in a bigger range dragon boats and in a more bigger range ramming ships.
If a ship of the enemy wants to attack, the ramming ships attack the catamarans, the cronosaurs attack the wall and get badly hurt and the ballistas do the Rest.

You can do that with the dragon clan as well. Get the governor, use the clay bamboo walls in the shallows, and build up sordes towers. The rocket boats can nail them from behind, as well as the fire boats and muraenosaurus submarines, while the enemy has to pound away at the walls, getting beaten to bits the entire time.

And the english phrase for "stone hit" is avalanche, last I checked.

No. But but mines posted directly in front of the walls would serve the same purpose

Build palisades at the beaches and taslow-towers.

Then build a secons palisade and 5-7 Ankylo-catapults with raptor-ammo.
When the enemy ist attacking he has to broke the wall and kill the taslows towers. Whne he bring his army to your island it will start raining... raptor.
Parker may be an egotistical bastard, but he is easily the best mapper para-welt.com possesses, which at least makes his intolerable arrogance somewhat excusable.

well nice strategies but nothing is better than rocket ramps, combined with a telescope tower and some mines (for the ramps also smoke towers)
walls, ships,.. not necessary

I prefer to play Landmaps, because the DR aren't very successful with playing on seamaps. I also don't like the harbour and the transporters.

Actually, I think the dragon clan navy are the weakest. The kronosaurus arent any stronger then a regular ram ship, and the catamaran is moderatly powerful. Stronger then a dragon boat, but weaker then the battle ship or rocket boat.

-It has a higher range

-It has only 10 dmg less than the other ships

-It makes poisoned damage

Why is it weaker? :?
